Emily Bamford
1992 -
Discipline: Alpine Growing up on a horse racing farm in Victoria, Emily Bamford’s early years as an athlete were split between equestrian and snow sports. After spending many weekends at Mt Buller with her family, Bamford joined the Mt Buller Race Club when she was nine years old. She continued to competitively pursue equestrian disciplines to a state level, however by the time she was 15 a decision had to be made between the two sports. Bamford chose ski racing, moved to the USA to continue her education while pursuing a skiing career and never looked back. At 17 she made her Junior World Championships debut, also competing at the event in 2010 and 2011. At that stage she was well on her way to senior racing, going on to score several SL top-5 results in the Australia New Zealand Cup and winning the Australian New Zealand Cup overall SL title three times. A member of the Australian National Team since she was 16, Bamford achieved selection for the Sochi 2014 Australian Olympic team and made her Olympic debut at 21. She placed 50th in the Giant Slalom, but was unlucky not to finish the Slalom event. |
