The World University Games (WUG) Winter is held every two years under the banner of the International University Sports Federation (FISU).

The WUG comprises competition in 10 compulsory sports and some optional sports determined by the host. These events are staged in various cities throughout the world.

Australian University Sport (AUS) selects teams to represent Australia in the WUG in consultation with Snow Australia.

The 2023 WUG will be held in Lake Placid, NY, USA between 12-22 January 2023

Alpine Skiing

  • Alpine Combined (AC) M/W
  • Super G (SG) M/W
  • Giant Slalom (GS) M/W
  • Slalom (SL) M/W
  • Mixed Team Parallel

Cross Country Skiing

  • Sprint (F) M/W
  • Individual (C) 10 km M / 5 km W
  • Pursuit (F) 10 km M / 5 km W
  • Mass Start (F) 30 km M / 15 km W
  • Relay (C&F) 4x10 km M/ 3x5 km W
  • Mixed Team Sprint (C)

Freestyle & Freeski

  • Big Air (BA) M/W
  • Slopestyle (SS) M/W
  • Ski Cross (SX) M/W

Snowboard

  • Parallel Giant Slalom (PGS) M/W
  • Parallel Slalom (PS) M/W
  • Snowboard Cross (SBX) M/W
  • Snowboard Big Air (SBA) M/W
  • Snowboard Slopestyle (SBS) M/W

Expression of Interest & Selection Timeline

  • 13th September - 3rd October – Expression of Interest received and reviewed
  • 3rd October – Expression of Interest submission closed
  • 17th October – Athlete Selection announced
  • October - December – Coaching Staff and Arrangements assisted by Snow Australia

Nomination Process

Only those athletes who have met the prescribed performance standards will be considered for selection.

Expression of Interest e-form must be completed online and Eligibility Certificate emailed to National Pathway and Programs Manager, Ben Wordsworth via bwordsworth@snow.org.au by Monday 3rd October 2023. Please ensure you have your passport handy when completing the EOI.

Event Fees

These may vary slightly from discipline to discipline but are likely to be in the range $3000-$3500 for athletes competing throughout the full duration of the event. This includes event entry fees, team management, accommodation, meals and transport from the accommodation to the competition sites. Snow Australia does not provide High Performance funding for this event, however athletes may seek funding from their university sporting organisations.
