BACKGROUND

The AUSXC U16 Development Camps provide a stepping stone between the state squads and the Australian Junior Team. Talented young athletes are introduced to National Team training methods and given insight into the pathway opportunities ahead of them. National Team coaches and athletes assist to The September U16 camp at Falls Creek focusses on on-snow training methods and skiing technique, while the April U16 camp at the AIS in Canberra covers dryland training and an introduction into physiological testing. Both camps also include education sessions on sport science and the AUSXC Athlete Pathway.

INVITATIONS

Athletes are selected for the AUSXC U16 Development camps based predominantly on their performances in the U16 competitions at the Australian Junior Championship, with additional consideration of performances at state championships. In exceptional circumstances performances in the Joey Hoppet and Interschools competitions can also be considered. The intention is to invite a total of 16 skiers with an equal split between male and female. For September 2016 and April 2017 skiers born in 2001 and 2002 will be invited.

Dates: Saturday-Sunday September 17/18
Location: Howmans Gap Alpine Centre & Falls Creek Nordic Trails
Activities: Spring ski touring and training, technique development, agility & coordination, mental skills training, other educational sessions.
Coaches: Robert Jones (lead coach for 2016 WJC/U23 Championship), other National Team coaches and National Team athletes TBC
Cost: $250 (covering coaching, accommodation and meals Friday dinner to Sunday lunchtime)
