Background
To compete internationally in FIS sanctioned events it is a FIS requirement that Snow Australia ensures all Australian competitors hold insurance that specifically covers competitive skiing and/or snowboarding.
For your insurance cover to be accepted by Snow Australia it must meet, at a minimum, the following requirements as stated within the FIS International Competition Rules below.
FIS International Competition Rules: 212.3
All competitors participating in FIS events must carry accident insurance, in sufficient amounts to cover accident, transport and rescue costs including race risks as well as an appropriate third-party liability insurance.
The National Associations are responsible for adequate insurance coverage of all their competitors sent and inscribed by them. The National Ski Association or their competitors must be able to show proof of the respective insurance coverage at any time on request of the FIS, one of its representatives or the organising committee.
If you are unable to source your own insurance to the meet these requirements the following options may suit your needs. They meet the minimum requirements as per the FIS rules on their own or as a combination and allow Snow Australia to submit an entry on your behalf to FIS event organisers. All financial members of Snow Australia are covered for third-party liabilty insurance.
As with all insurance policies please read the product disclosure statements and associated policy information before purchasing and make sure the cover meets your unique needs.

Global Rescue provide integrated medical, security, travel risk and crisis management services, delivered by critical care paramedics, physicians, nurses and military special operations veterans. Accepted by FIS for FIS competitions. Please note, if you are considering the ‘Global Rescue’ offering to satisfy your FIS Entry requirements, you need to be aware that there are no ‘Medical Costs’ included with this service. Basically once you have been ‘evacuated’ to a medical facility, then all medical and other costs will be your responsibility. Given most standard/retail travel insurance has an exclusion for competition, racing and/or training then any medical or other costs that may be incurred as a result of competition, racing and/or training are unlikely to be covered under such policies. Only those Travel insurance Policies that specifically include Competition, Racing and/or Training would respond to cover any Medical and other costs that may be incurred.
