AMELIA HODGSON

Discipline: Para Alpine Sighted Guide
Paralympic Participation: Beijing 2022

Amelia Hodgson grew up training and competing in Alpine racing with the Perisher Winter Sports Club. She competed in Interschools for Radford College.

She transitioned into a Para Alpine Guide in 2019 and was the sighted guide for Patrick Jensen. Together they won three bronze World Cup medals during the 2019/2020 season.

At the Beijing Winter Paralympics, the pair placed 8th in the downhill, 6th in the Super G, and 8th in the Slalom.

Amelia had never imagined that she’d be a guide, stumbling on the role on the slopes in Jindabyne.

“I grew up ski racing and then I became an instructor and then a coach. At some point being a local in Jindabyne I just got asked to do it and I thought why not?

“I love it, I love skiing, I love the circuit, and honestly most of all I like skiing around with Pat, he’s like my best friend.

“I like what we do together and I think it’s a really good relationship.

“Pat is the only person I’ve ever guided and he is really trusting. He was really easy going when I first started as I made a lot of mistakes at the beginning and guided him to some places I shouldn’t have!” Hodgson said.

“But he’s really easy to work with and that makes my life so much easier,” she said.

Since retirement from guiding, Amelia has been a ski instructor and Alpine coach at Perisher. She is currently the Snow Australia Para Alpine Assistant coach.
