BART BUNTING

Discipline: Para Alpine
Paralympic Participation: Salt Lake City 2002, Vancouver 2010

Born blind, Bart Bunting only took up skiing in his 20s in the year 1998, guided by schoolmate Nathan Chivers. Less than two years after taking up the sport, Bart became a two-time World Champion after winning the Giant Slalom and Downhill at Anzère, Switzerland in 2000.

Going on to represent Australia at the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Paralympic Games, Bart won gold in Downhill and Super G and picked up silver in Giant Slalom. His achievements helped propel Australia to a record high eighth place on the medal tally and he was given the honour of carrying the flag at the closing ceremony.

Injury and study commitments prevented Bunting and Chivers from appearing at the 2006 Games, however they returned for a final Paralympic appearance at Vancouver 2010.

During his career he was coached by Christian Geiger, who himself became a dual Paralympic alpine guide and medallist.
