Claudia Gueli
1997 -
Discipline: Freestyle Moguls
From the age of 11 Claudia and her brother schooled at Mt Buller during the winter and eventually found her place in Team Buller Riders (TBR) where she was introduced to mogul skiing. TBR encouraged her to compete in her first ever ABOM Mogul Challenge where she managed to ski around the jumps because she was too scared. From then on she gained some confidence and continued competing in mogul events. Succeeding at Interschools as a child and local mogul competitions as a young teenager earned her a spot as a NSWIS scholarship holder. She made her International debut in 2014 at 17 years of age. Three years later she made her World Cup debut in Lake Placid, USA, placing 27th. It became a breakthrough season for her as she went on to compete in 10 in the space of two months. When looking back at her career, she views the World Cup circuits she competed in as a collective highlight. Claudia made her first World Cup final in Thaiwoo, China, in 2017 and placed 13th overall. It wasn’t until her final season where she achieved a personal best of 6th place in the Thaiwoo Duals World Cup. Claudia made her Olympic debut in PyeongChang where she narrowly missed out on a spot in the first final, finishing 23rd overall. She credits her Mum and Dad as her biggest supporters. Coaches in the industry such as Hamish Cox, Andrew Patterson, and Peter Topalovic guided her throughout the years. Towards the end of her career she had some instrumental coaching from Sam Fung and David Speirs. Claudia has continued a relationship with the sport through coaching with TBR.
