ERIC BICKERTON

Discipline: Para Alpine Guide

Paralympic Participation: Vancouver 2010

Eric Bickerton was the sighted guide for Jessica Gallagher in the lead up to- and during the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games. Jessica had no experience skiing, so it was Erics task to coach her up to a paralympic level in only 140 days of on snow training prior to the Olympics.

Despite this monumental task in front of him and Jessica, as a team they managed to achieve Bronze in the Slalom. On top of this they together achieved gold at the 2009 New Zealand Winter Games and she won her first IPC World Cup medal in January 2010.

While he was primarily known for being a guide, he himself had success as a skier as he came 7th in the International Military Downhill Championships. On top of being a Jessica’s guide, he also served as a board member for Disabled Winter Sports Australia.

He still serves the sport by running skiing tours world round.
