James Millar was born without a lower right arm, has been a cross-country skier most of his life. James competed in Interschools representing Melbourne Grammar School.

James competed at time where there was no formal Para Nordic Skiing program in Australia at any level. He was Australia's first Nordic skier at a Paralympics in 22 years when he competed at the Torino Winter Paralympics.

James Millar took on a full program of events as Australia’s only cross country competitor. James competed in the 5km, 10km and 20km cross country events, then backed up in two biathlon events, the 7.5km and 12.5km, became Australia’s first competitor in the biathlon.

In 2007 he fell and broke his back while back-country skiing near Mount Hotham. The accident put him out of the sport for a year.

At the Vancouver Winter Paralympics, James placed 22nd in both the 1km sprint standing, 10km standing, and 18th in the 20km standing.

James currently leads the steering group for Para Nordic program with DWA, ensuring that it remains athlete and participant focussed.
