Discipline: Para Alpine Olympic Participation: Torino 2006, Vancouver 2010 Nicholas was diagnosed with Osteogenic Sarcoma at 8 years of age and lost his leg in the battle. At 13, Nicholas Watts fell in love with skiing after being invited to an event with Camp Quality. He returned for another camp and was scouted by Disabled Wintersport Australia to join their program. Nicholas competed in 4 events at the 2006 Torino Paralympics, placing in the downhill, giant slalom, slalom, and super g. Although Nicholas was a single leg skier, he competed with a prosthesis on his left leg after lots of experimentation, because the lower leg kept ‘getting in the way’ when he skied on a single leg. At the Vancouver Olympics, he had moved to skiing on one leg, where he competed in the slalom, giant slalom, and super g. |
