Steph Prem (nee Hickey) grew up snowboard training with the Mt Buller Race Club and competed in Interschools for St Leonards College. 

Initially competing in Parallel GS and Giant Slalom. She competed in the 2003 World Junior Championships in Parallel GS, Halfpipe and Snowboard Cross. She competed in these events in her World Championships debut two years later.  She continued to compete in Parallel GS and Snowboard in FIS and  World Junior Championships until exclusively competing in Snowboard Cross from 2004. Steph made her World Cup debut in Snowboard Cross in Whistler at the end of 2005. Over her career she competed in 18 World Cups, with her best result a 12th place. She also competed in 12 European Cups, along with many FIS, Nor-Am, ANZ Cups, and France, Swiss, German National Championships. 

Steph competed at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics finishing 18th. A career ending injury forced her out of the sport during the 2010/2011 season. 

Since retiring from sport she has been an expert commentator at the 2014, 2018 and 2022 Winter Olympics on the Seven and Ten network. She is a regular on the speaking circuit, delivery may keynote presentations, along with owning her own health business.
