As the Lausanne 2020 Winter Youth Olympic Games countdown reaches 100 days, we look back at the experiences of Olympians Greta Small and Emily Arthur.

The Winter Youth Olympic Games is a unique and unforgettable experience for emerging athletes with many using the event to launch the next phase of their career.

Two-time Alpine Olympian Greta Small became one of Australia's first ever Winter Youth Olympians when she competed at the inaugural event in Innsbruck in 2012.

Using the experience from the competition, Small went on to compete at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Games.

“I earned so much experience that helped me for Sochi, I can say that I wouldn’t have performed as well at Sochi had I not gone to YOG,” Small said.

"Definitely eye-opening for my experience in terms of my career. I learnt so much at that Games,” she said.

Snowboard Olympian Emily Arthur competed at the Lillehammer 2016 Winter Youth Olympics.

Taking home a silver medal in the halfpipe at her YOG, Arthur went on to represent her country at the PyeongChang 2018 Olympics.

“The Youth Olympics were so crazy, it was insane getting to represent Australia,” Arthur said.

The 2020 Winter Youth Olympic Games will be held in Lausanne, Switzerland from 9-22 January 2020.
