2017 AUSXC Cocktail Fundraiser - Help Support the National XC Ski Team
Published Mon 18 Sep 2017
The 2017 AUSXC Cocktail Night will take place in Armadale in Melbourne on Friday October 13. This is a great opportunity to get together with athletes and coaches and other skiing enthusiasts to celebrate everything cross country ski racing in Australia. The evening is also one of the main fundraisers for the National Team XC Towards 2018 project, with all funds raised from the door fee and live/silent actions going towards expenses of Australian athletes competing at major events overseas.
Hosts for the evening are the Montgomery family, who have generously provided the use of their house for the fifth year in a row. Drinks and canapes are served by National Team athletes, with a few short speeches and live auctions interwoven into the silent auction bidding and socialising.
The biggest event for the AUSXC Team in the coming season is the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang. Currently Australia is on track to have a record five cross country skiers compete, with nine athletes throwing their hats into the ring trying to qualify and be selected. With the AOC underwriting the team at the Winter Olympics, XC Towards 2018 funds will be directed primarily towards World Cup competition and Pyeongchang preparation. The other major event supported by fundraising this season will be the 2018 World Junior/U23 Championships in Switzerland, where the goal is to have a team of 5-7 athletes.
Tickets are available via Trybooking.com at the cost of $50 for adults and $30 for students. For those unable to make it, a number of the auction items will be put onto an online auction platform (details TBC). Direct tax deductible donations to the team can also be made via the Australian Sports Foundation website.
Join us for a great night and help support the team!
