2023 NDC Meetings Key Outcomes

After an eventful Snow Australia Awards Night, the National Discipline Comittees met on Friday 28 April to review and plan on Snow Australia initiatives for their respective disciplines ahead of the 2023 Domestic Season.

Here are the key summary points from each discipline.

Freestyle

  • The committee identified the need for more judges to be available for domestic events and plans to hold a Domestic Judging Clinic later this year to upskill those interested in becoming judges.
  • The new 2023 ETP cohort was confirmed with the ETP Jindabyne Camp at the NSTC to be held on 2nd – 4th June.
  • A working group will be established for the Water Ramp Facility in Lilydale, VIC.
  • NSWIS selection criteria document to be published at a later date to inform athletes and coaches.

Snowboard

  • The Chumpy Pullin foundation will partner with Snow Australia again for the Chumpy Pullin FIS JNR SBX Series. Following on last year and providing what promises to be an exciting FIS JNR SBX Series across NSW and VIC snow resorts.
  • The need for the development of more Technical Delegates (TDs) for FIS events in NSW and VIC has been identified by the committee with plans for increased funding and training to be allocated to increase the number of TDs available to asssit in the delivery of FIS Events in Australia. 
  • Nomination and selection criteria for the Youth Olympic Games is now on the Snow Australia website, with the final selection to take place by 20th of December, pending FIS quota allocation.

Park & Pipe

  • Park & Pipe NDC to provide financial support for the June ETP Camp at NSTC.
  • Committee identified a lack of judges for domestic events and made plans to hold judging information clinics for both parents and athletes at the ETP camp, as well as an official judging clinic later this season.
  • ANC Events within the 2023 season were discussed by the committee with challenges identified as: cost, TD, and judge availability.
  • Park & Pipe FUTURES will take place in Perisher and the NSTC 
  • Committee agreed upon the Chumpy Pullin JNR P&P event series (non-FIS) to be held at Mt Buller and Perisher across 3 event days, with the confirmed age group being FIS JNR age (13-17 years old).

With a big snow season in store for 2023, the NDCs are looking forward to seeing how each discipline progresses at all participation levels and reviewing how they can work to improve each discipline to continue to maintain and improve growth trends in snowsports.
