After false start, Para Alpine World Championships ready to get going

After a false start due to the weather-related cancellation of the speed and combined events, the 2025 Para Alpine World Ski Championships are set to get under away this weekend following the opening ceremony in Maribor, Slovenia.

Josh Hanlon (sitting) comes into the the event in the form of his life, scoring a pair of Slalom World Cup podiums in Germany last week, the first World Cup medals of his career.

With his best World Championships result of 2023 coming in slalom when he finished sixth, his current form has him well placed to challenge the best in the business this week.

"To be up there with the quickest guys is really cool," Hanlon said after his maiden World Cup podium. "Now I have to keep challenging myself to stay with them consistently."

Visually-impaired skier Georgia Gunew made history last year when she scored her first World Cup podium and she achieves another career-first this week as she makes her World Cup debut with guide Ethan Jackson.

Jackson is a more familiar face at the World Championships and was a teammate of Hanlon's when he guided for Patrick Jensen in 2023 in Spain.

The new schedule will see Giant Slalom take place on Saturday (Women) and Sunday (Men) before Slalom on Monday (Men) and Tuesday (Women).
