6 World Championships coming up in 2019

In just over a month, Australia’s ski and snowboard riders will begin to go head to head with the best athletes across the globe in the first of several different World Championships.

Here are six World Championship events coming up in the new year.

  1. Located just 35 minutes from Salt Lake City International Airport, Park City, Utah is home to two world-class resorts, Deer Valley and Park City Mountain Resorts, which will play host to the 2019 FIS Snowboard, Freestyle and Freeski World Championships. Snowboarder Scotty James and Mogul skier Britt Cox will line up as defending 2017 World Champions.

  2. The 2019 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships will return to Seefeld, Austria 34 years after previously hosting the same event. The Championships will see multiple Australian PyeongChang Olympians back in action on the world stage.

  3. The World’s best Alpine skiers will be in Are to compete in front of a reported 120 000 visitors and fans as part of the 2019 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships. A small and rural town in the midst of the Swedish mountains, Are has become renowned for its world class skiing.

  4. For the seventh year, the 2019 FIS Alpine Junior World Ski Championships will be held in Italy, this time on the slopes of Val di Fassa. This event is exclusively for up and coming athletes from 15 to 20 years old. The winners of the Junior World Ski Championships also gain a wildcard entry to participate in the World Cup finals of the current year.

  5. Aussie Para Alpine skiers will kickstart the rush of World Championships when they hit Slovenia slopes in mid-January for the 2019 Para Alpine World Championships.

  6. Wrapping up the World Championships season will be the thrills and spills from the 2019 Para Snowboard World Championships.
