Gratitude is also extended to the Perisher Race Department and Management for hosting safe events for the school students.

At the end of the Alpine Division 1 competition today, competitors were asked how they enjoyed the experience.

“I was a little bit nervous at first but by the end of it I was smashing it, it was so much fun,” said Bella Mann from St Clare's College in Canberra.

Her teammate Annika Zahara said her favourite thing about Interschools was “Getting to meet new people but also getting to work with the St Clare's team”.

Like many Year 12 students this year marked Annika’s final Regional Interschools Championships.

Her teammate Ella Woods, although in Year 12, had their first Interschools experience.

“This is my first year with the team so I have been having a lot of fun. I really enjoyed it. I was scared to get out here today but I started talking to the other schools around me and everyone was just so lovely.”

Tom Smith from Snowy Mountains Grammar School, when asked what is his favourite discipline, said “Definitely Alpine because you get to go very fast.” He also shared his tips with other competitors. “Don’t overthink it - it is not as competitive as you think. Go for it and have a good time.”

Bulli High School Coordinator and volunteer course official Peta Josh said her experience volunteering at Interschools was a great time.

“Today was fantastic, the course was very slick, very fast, well-run and well-organised,” said Peta.

”I love watching students from my school whizzing past. They don’t like it when I cheer them on, but I do!

“As a school coordinator I think it’s one of those opportunities to see students start on the hill in year seven with maybe not too much experience, and then over the years they just get so into it.

“They love it and they keep going and going. And they just get better every year.”

Peta shared her advice for anyone looking to volunteer: “Get involved! “It’s fun and helps everyone else out.

“Make the most of the opportunity to help out your school and children.”
