Alpine Director Update - December

Seasons Greetings from the Alpine/Ski Cross Team at Snow Australia.
As the year draws to a close, I would like to reflect on the outstanding year that 2022 has been.
- Two new Alpine Olympians competed in Beijing- Katie Parker and Louis Muhlen-Shulte along with Greta Small in her 3rd Olympic appearance
- Three-time Olympian Sami Kennedy-Sim secures top 8 result in Ski Cross at Beijing Olympic Winter Games
- Return of Alpine and Ski Cross racing during the Australian winter, with Alpine National Championships, Australian New Zealand Continental Cup Ski Cross, Masters events, Children’s carnival and more
- Return of in club activity with the Snow Australia Team
- A full season of skiing in Australia
- Athletes returning to International competition, preparing for a busy 2022/23 season
November and December have seen a great return to racing in the northern hemisphere across all levels of competition. We have been glued to FIS live timing watching National Team athletes compete in World Cup, Nor-Am Cup and European Cup events, while scrolling through countless result pages to see our Australian FIS level athletes participate across Europe, Scandinavia and North America. Special mentions to the following athletes for their outstanding start to the 2022/23 season:
- Harry Laidlaw (Personal Best 4th and 5th place at Europa Cup GS in Zinal SUI)
- Phoebe Heaydon (1st and 3rd place in Aspen FIS events, a Personal Best in SL)
- Katie Parker (Personal Best 8th place at Copper Mtn NorAm SL)
- Zali Sutton (Personal Best SL results and podium in Adelboden FIS SL’s)
- Thomas Hoffman (Personal Best GS result at Beaver Creek NorAm’s)
- Harry Hoffman (Solid performance both GS and SL in Geilo NOR )
Snow Australia will shortly be announcing the team representing Australia at the Alpine Junior World Ski Championships in St Anton, Austria this January 17th – 25th , 2023.
We are also calling for Expressions of Interest for the 2023 Ski Cross Junior World Championships in San Pellegrino, Italy. Please submit your EOI using the form here and email to entries@snow.org.au.
As we shift our focus to the New Year, we are excited to share with you some of the domestic events calendar for 2023, with more events to be confirmed in the New Year:
- Children’s Carnival and Skills Challenge – August 28th-September 1st 2023 - Mt. Buller
- Australia New Zealand Cup Alpine GS & SL – September 4th-8th 2023 - Mt. Hotham Resort
- Alpine National & Junior National Championships – September 13th-15th 2023 - Perisher Resort
