Alpine Coordinator Update - May 2022
Published Thu 12 May 2022
One month to go!!!
We are now officially one month from the beginning, of what I hope will be a very productive season for all of us. Having said that, I want to remind everyone of the importance of getting in some good dryland sessions over the coming weeks. Having a good physical base not only allows us to maximize every single day of training but also is key to keeping us healthy and injury free so we can enjoy skiing all winter long. Talk with your club or keep your eyes out for the release of SnowReady on the Snow Australia website, for further information and ideas around maximizing your dryland sessions.
The Snow Australia Awards was a great evening for all in attendance and it was great to see so many alpine and ski cross athletes both past and present. Congratulations to all the award winners and in particular Alpine Athlete of the Year, Louis Muhlen-Schulte, Ski Cross Athlete of the Year, Sami Kennedy-Sim, Junior Athlete of the Year, Thomas Hoffman and Para Alpine Athlete of the Year, Josh Hanlon.
The ETP Alpine Program will be resuming in the coming weeks, you can find specific information around athlete identification criteria, process and the pathway for the Alpine Program HERE. The last 2 years has made training and competition very difficult to access both domestically and overseas and as such, The Capability Working Group (Club Head Coaches, Alpine Director, NAC Members) decided to postpone any new ETP selections, in interest to fairness, and to give athletes, clubs and coaches time to train and evaluate their athletes over the domestic season enabling them to make accurate assessments for all athletes. There will be an opportunity following the winter for clubs to nominate new athletes for the ETP Alpine Program.
Snow Australia Membership will be rolling out in the middle of this month. Keep an eye on the website and on your inboxes for membership rollover and renewal. Remember it is through your support, and alpine membership, that allows the National Alpine Committee to run initiatives through within the clubs and community at large.
If you are looking for any last-minute ski equipment or clothing, or looking to sell off some well loved items, make sure to check out the upcoming SnowSale in Canberra May 14th and Jindabyne June 11th.
Take advantage of the lovely weather over the next month and see you on the hill soon!
