Alpine Directors Update - July 2022

Published Fri 15 Jul 2022

With the season underway and resorts having one of the best starts in recent memory it’s great to see everyone able to enjoy some great skiing. The great snow cover has allowed the clubs and athletes to take full advantage and maximize their school holidays training block. I look forward to visiting each of the clubs over the coming weeks to get the opportunity to join in with the athletes training and also meet with families and the coaches.

On the evening of Thursday, July 7th we had a strong turnout for a Snow Australia Alpine Officials Level 1 Course presented by Ali Bombardier and me. It was a great chance to connect with both parent volunteers and coaches for a refresh after 2 years without races. We look forward to offering more of these courses in the future to help educate and grow the community of Alpine Officials who are the lifeblood for hosting races in this country.

I had the pleasure of spending last Friday and Saturday with some of the Perisher Winter Sports Club Alpine athletes. The athletes took part in the Snow Australia National Skills Assessment after their early morning training, and we were treated to great ski conditions over in Guthega. I would like to thank all the athletes, families, and coaches for supporting this initiative and I look forward to doing more with the club during the season.

This coming weekend I will have the pleasure to visit Thredbo and engage with athletes from both Thredbo Ski Racing Club (TSRC) and the Thredbo Mountain Academy (TMA). Athletes will be participating in the Snow Australia National Skills Assessment, with U16 and FIS on Saturday July 16th and U12 and U14 on Sunday July 17th. There is still time to register if you are a Snow Australia Club Racer or National Member through the following links:

There is also a TSRC ‘Try Out Day’ scheduled for August 13th for prospective 2023 members, registration will close on Aug. 4 so make sure not to miss it!

I will be visiting with the Falls Creek Race Club for a National Skills Assessment and club visit on the weekend of July 23rd and 24th. I look forward to seeing and meeting with all athletes, coaches, and parents. Registration for the National Skills Assessment can be done by all Snow Australia Club Racer or National Members through the following links:

July 27th – August 1st I will be visiting Team Hotham Winter Sports Club for an opportunity to train with the club across all age groups and work with their coaches. There will also be opportunities for parent engagements in the evening with the final schedule to be determined.

I am planning to be in Mt. Buller visiting with Mt Buller Race Club (MBRC) from August 11th until the 17th to join the club in the daily training environments. There will be many different opportunities across my visit including training with athletes and coaches, SX specific training along with 3 x Olympian Sami Kennedy-Sim, skills assessments, and parent engagements.
