Alpine Event News From the Northern Hemisphere

Published Wed 09 Dec 2020

December started with a quiet week for our athletes in Europe and North America as races continue to be cancelled or rescheduled due to snow conditions and organisational challenges.

Congratulations to Zali Sutton for her third place in Santa Caterina Valfurva (ITA) SL Junior Races U18 for both days. The 17-year old skier also finished in the top-15 twice in two National Junior Race slaloms, again held in Santa Caterina Valfurva, with an 11th place and a 13th place on consecutive days.

In North America, 19-year old Henry Heaydon scored two top-10 results in a FIS Super-G double-header at Copper Mountain, Colorado. Henry placed eight in the first event and improved to sixth in the second race.

The Men’s FIS Ski World Cup is headed to Val d’Isere (FRA) next, with a Downhill scheduled for the 12 December and a Super-G the next day. Races in Val Gardena/Gröden (ITA) have also been confirmed by FIS, following the official snow control from 5 December. As scheduled, a Super-G and a Downhill will take place on 18-19 December 2020.

After the cancellation of two events in St. Moritz (SUI) over the weekend due to snow conditions, women Alpine teams will travel to Courchevel (FRA) for two Giant Slaloms on 12-13 December, before moving on to Val d’Isere for two Downhill events on 18-19 December and a Super-G the next day.

Our Ski Cross athletes are looking forward to making their World Cup debut at Arosa (SUI), where two men’s and two women’s events are scheduled on 14-16 December.
