Karbon and the Australian Olympic Committee have revealed the Opening Ceremony uniform for Australian Olympians at Beijing 2022, 15 days ahead of the Olympic cauldron lighting on 4 February.

Supporting the Australian Winter Olympic Team since Torino 2006, Beijing marks the fifth Games Karbon has provided world class uniforms for Australia’s best winter athletes.

Moguls, aerials and skate athletes including World Champion Laura Peel, multiple World Cup medallist Jakara Anthony, triple Olympian Britt Cox and the most recently selected athlete for the Australian team, skater Brendan Corey showed off the striking camo design in between competition and training in the United States this week.

The jacket design draws on fashions seen on winter slopes around the world, and will ensure Australian athletes stand out against the snowy backdrops throughout their Winter Games experience.

Featuring Hydrostretch PRO 2 fabric with Karbonite 20,000 waterproofing, 80/20 Goose Down insulation and multizone insulation mapping, Karbon have ensured Australian athletes will stay warm in the sub zero temperatures expected throughout the Beijing Games.

Karbon will also provide the Delegation and Competition uniforms, with the green and gold uniforms to be showcased by athletes in Beijing, while XTM will supply gloves, boots and accessories.

Chef de Mission of the Australian Olympic Team for Beijing Geoff Lipshut said Karbon have provided a uniform fit for the best athletes in the world.

“It is fantastic to unveil the Karbon Opening Ceremony jacket just 15 days from the start of the Games,” Mr Lipshut said.

“Karbon have been incredible supporters of Australian winter athletes for decades and they have once again prepared a world class uniform that I know our athletes will wear with pride.

“Thank you to Karbon for your ongoing support of Australian Olympians, your partnership is invaluable to helping athletes achieve their Olympic dreams. Olympic legends like Lydia Lassila, Dale Begg-Smith and Torah Bright have shown the world just what Australian winter athletes can do in Karbon uniforms, and I cannot wait to see the fantastic performances our team will deliver in less than a month.

“Beijing will be an extremely cold Games, with some venues expected to be minus 15 degrees or colder, and it’s reassuring to know Australian athletes will be kitted out by world leaders in winter clothing.”

Karbon have supported Australian winter athletes for 20 years, partnering with the Olympic Winter Institute of Australia since 2002 as well as supplying the Winter Olympic Team since Torino 2006.

To make sure athletes can keep warm in the freezing conditions, Karbon will also be supplying USB powered heated vests with three different heat settings. Worn under outerwear, this is a first for the Australian Olympic Team and will see athletes toasty warm in the coldest conditions in Beijing.

Peter Schure, Co-Owner and Vice President Marketing, Teams and Resorts for Karbon said he was proud to support Australian Olympians.

“For more than 20 years we have been committed to supporting our teams and athletes, providing them with the best technical gear to help them achieve their goals,” Mr Schure said.

“We've cheered them on the podium, commiserated their losses, and watched them push themselves to new heights. For the last two decades, our founding ethos has remained constant: Sport can change lives, can elevate the human spirit, and inspire greatness.

“It has been a privilege to support Australian athletes over twenty years at all levels of competition. Beijing will be the fifth consecutive Olympic Games with Australian athletes wearing Karbon when it matters most. We are extremely proud of our support to the athletes over these years and look forward to seeing the incredible moments Australian athletes will provide at Beijing 2022.”

Triple Olympian and 2017 World Champion mogul skier Britt Cox said she was proud at the opportunity to wear Karbon at a potential fourth Olympics.

“Getting to put the Olympic Opening Ceremony jacket on is getting me so pumped up and excited,” Cox said. “It’s so cool to have a first look at the Karbon Olympic jacket, a cool camo pattern and it feels really special to put it on.

“Karbon have been the Olympic sponsor at all the Games I’ve qualified for and really proud to have them on board again for Beijing.

“I’ve competed in China a few times now, it's absolutely freezing in the mountains just north of Beijing. Karbon always provide excellent gear for the Olympic team, I think we'll all be toasty warm for the Games.”

With a season already including eight World Cup medals, Jakara Anthony said seeing the Opening Ceremony jackets makes the Games feel even closer.

“I’m feeling great in the Karbon getup,” Anthony said. “Beijing is getting so close, I’m getting so excited, I need to calm myself down a little bit.

“It’s really special to put on the Olympic uniform and start to feel like everything’s becoming a reality.

Brodie Summers, fresh from making the moguls super final in his top five finish at the Deer Valley World Cup, said he was excited by the style of the jackets.

“I think it looks great,” Summers said. “There's been a few teams over the years that have had touches of camo in the uniforms and I think most of us have been a bit jealous. So now that we get a chance to rock the camo as well, I think everyone's happy.

“I've been wearing Karbon for as long as I've been in the Australian moguls team, we're really fortunate to have their support and I absolutely love the gear.”

Competition, Delegation wear and accessories will also be revealed closer to the Games.
