National XC Champs returns for second round

This weekend, Falls Creek will be the scene of Australia’s second National Cross Country Championships, bringing together the country’s best skiers.

Competition on Saturday will focus on the Freestyle Sprint event, testing athlete’s ability to ski with speed and accuracy.

While on Sunday, athletes will be subjected to the Classic Distance event calling for endurance and stamina.

The Championships form part of the FIS AUS/NZ Continental Cup Series, with the U20 class in all events also counted as selection races for the Australian Junior Team.

Month of Alpine action kicks off at Falls Creek

A big month of Alpine has kicked off this week at Falls Creek with the ANC SX and FIS SL being held across four days.

Ski Cross and Slalom will take centre stage this week, with Ski Cross featuring from August 15-17 while Slalom rounds out the event from August 16-18.

It will be the start of a big month of Alpine racing with competitors moving next weekend to the FIS ANC Giant Slalom at Hotham, before the next FIS ANC Giant Slalom race in New Zealand on August 27-30. It will wrap up with the ANC SX back at Hotham on the 3-6 September.

Park and Pipe up next for SSA Futures

Across two days, the next generation of ski and snowboard riders will be developed through the Park and Pipe SSA Futures program.

With the first day of two held on Friday at Falls Creek, this particular program will lead into the Falls Creek SSA Park & Pipe Series Slopestyle event beginning August 19.

Participants at the Park and Pipe sessions will gain the perfect platform to prepare for this event with their newly learned skills.

Aimed at riders interested in Freestyle Snowboarding and Freeski between 10-18 years of age with experience in riding the Terrain Park and  Halfpipe, participants will gain practical knowledge.

Featuring World Class coaches, athletes and mentors, participants will be challenged and use the 12 hours’ worth of sessions across both days to focus on technical training and event preparation.
 
Falls Creek hosts Slopestyle event

In an event which demands competitors to use creativity and flair to perform the best tricks throughout the whole run, this Sunday’s Falls Creek Slopestyle event will not disappoint.

Competitors will complete a course mixed with big jumps and rail features meaning there will be something for everyone on the course.

Open to snowboarders and skiers this event will challenge riders to perform a variety of tricks while ensuring they put down a clean run from start to finish if they want to win one of the many prizes on offer.

Since its debut as an Olympic sport at Sochi 2014, slopestyle has experienced a growing popularity.
