Aussies shine at Whistler Cup
Published Thu 18 Apr 2019
The 27th edition of Whistler Cup has come to a close with our U16 SSA team taking part in competition at Canada's internationally renowned resort.
A total of 20 countries participated in the annual event from 11-14 April, 2019 with our skiers proving themselves against well over 400 competitors from across the world in their races.
Among many highlights for the team, James Kelly finished 4th in the Slalom in his first year competing within the U16 age category and even managed to win his second run.
Penelope Hughes also achieved great success placing 8th in the U16 age category for Slalom, while Amelia Jones placed 9th in Super G and 10th in Giant Slalom.
Whistler Cup was the vision of three local alpine ski-racing enthusiasts who believed that Whistler could host a celebrated, international junior racing event just like the prestigious races that are famous in Europe.
SSA would like to congratulate the entire U16 SSA Australian for their great results, as well as to the U14 athletes who participated in the U14 Whistler Cup Festival.
Thank you to all the coaches, northern alpine and the volunteers who assisted with organising this great week for our young Athletes.
