Dual Olympian mogul skier Brodie Summers has been elected Chair of the Australian Olympic Committee’s (AOC) Athletes’ Commission with three-time Olympic paddler Alyce Wood assuming the role of Deputy Chair.
The Athletes’ Commission met this week for the first time since the Paris 2024 Games, with the election of the Chair and Deputy Chair a priority.
Six new Commission members joined re-elected members Andrew Charter and Rowie Webster, IOC Member Jess Fox, former Deputy Chair and Chair of the ONOC Athletes’ Commission Ken Wallace, winter Olympian Greta Small and recently appointed Indigenous members Conor Nicholas and Alex Wilson.
AOC President Ian Chesterman congratulated both Olympians following the vote of their peers.
“Brodie and Alyce are both outstanding people and committed contributors to their fellow athletes over many years. Each is serving their first term on the Commission.
“Brodie has been a very active member of the Commission since his election at the Beijing 2022 Games. He brings a great range of experience in sport.
“Importantly, he understands the difficulties of the athlete journey. Brodie’s a listener whose wisdom and knowledge make him highly credentialled to lead a very engaged group of Olympians on this Commission.
“Equally, Alyce Wood will be a fine Deputy Chair. Her leadership ahead of the postponed Tokyo 2020 Games was outstanding. Alyce was an immensely positive force during that difficult period and of course, brings all the experience of three Olympic Games as an athlete to the table.
“The voice of the athlete is very important to us and we welcome Brodie as a full member of the AOC Executive, joining Jess Fox who is an IOC Member in Australia,” Mr Chesterman said.
Brodie Summers says it’s an honour to lead a diverse and highly motivated group of Olympians.
“I had the privilege of serving on the Commission under Cate Campbell as Chair with Ken Wallace as Deputy Chair. The Commission has a rich history within the AOC and is committed to building on the impactful work of previous members, with a focus on fostering consistent dialogue with our Olympian alumni.
“Olympians need to feel empowered to share their ideas with the Commission, ensuring the athlete voice is heard. Our Commission combines extensive experience with fresh perspectives, bringing new ideas and energy. After just one meeting, I can already attest to this dynamic.
“I look forward to working with Alyce and the whole group in the time ahead”, he concluded.
