Mogul athlete Callum Cook has been announced as the recipient of the Young Achiever of the Year in Snow Australia’s 2024 Community Sport Awards.
This award recognises a young athlete who has achieved excellence both on and off the snow, or who has overcome adversity, or achieved something special within the community.
After a successful 2023/24 Northern Hemisphere season, Callum suffered an ACL injury in July of 2024, and whilst recovering, he turned his focus to mentoring and coaching skills.
“Being recognized as Snow Australia's Young Achiever Award is an incredible honor,” Cook said.
“It’s a reminder of how far I’ve come in my journey and it motivates me to keep pushing boundaries and striving for excellence in the sport I love.
“I feel incredibly blessed to have had the opportunity to explore coaching.
“Mentoring others has deepened my understanding of the sport and given me a fresh perspective.
“It’s taught me patience and has strengthened my ability to communicate effectively, which I know will make me a better athlete and leader when I return to the snow.”
As a member of the ETP program, Callum was given the opportunity to join the NSWIS team at their camp in Whistler earlier in the year.
“It was a huge personal highlight to have the opportunity to travel to Whistler with the NSWIS team,” he said.
“It was an amazing chance to dive deep into why we do what we do, share our passion for mogul skiing, and push ourselves in a world-class environment.
“The ETP program feels like being part of a family.
“The biggest lesson I’ve learned is the value of connection—both with my teammates and with the sport itself.
“It’s these bonds that make the challenges worth it.”
Proud of his ability to adapt to life off-snow whilst injured, Callum is looking forward to the upcoming season as he approaches it from a different perspective.
“One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned this year is that an injury isn’t the end of the world,” Cook said.
“It’s about making the most of the time you have, staying positive, and finding new ways to grow—even when the path looks different than you expected.
“Something I am looking forward to ahead of getting my coaching accreditation this season is connecting with the up-and-coming generation of skiers.
“Coaching will give me the chance to focus on how I approach the basics and help others lay a solid foundation for their journeys in the sport.
“I’m most proud of proving to myself—and others—how committed I am to this sport.
“Every challenge has only reinforced that this is what I want to do, and I’ve worked hard to show just how much it means to me.”
Snow Australia would like to congratulate Callum on receiving the Young Achiever of the Year Award in the 2024 Snow Australia Community Sport Awards, wishing him all the best in his future on and off the snow.
