In the recent NorAm series held at Panorama, Canada, National Alpine Ski Team Member Dominic Demschar scored his career best NorAm finish narrowly missing the podium in 4th place in the GS. Dominic also scored his best ever FIS point result with a 10.22. This is a strong performance and great start to the 2017 World Championship season, and promising result in the 2018 Olympic Winter Games qualification period.
When asked to comment, Dominic had this to say:
“It was really cold and the snow was good making for a fair race I thought I skied well only a few mistakes here and there. We had a difficult prep period in vail because of the slow start to the season and trying to fit training time in around school, but I was able to find my feet pretty quick once the snow fell. My focus this year is the same as any other, and that is to continue to try and ski faster everyday. I think that if I keep the focus on my skiing then everything else will come.”
Dominic’s performance means he will automatically be selected to the Australian Team for the upcoming World Ski Championships in February at St. Moritz; Switzerland.
Also competing in the early NorAm series were Louis Muhlen, who had career best results in DH, SG and AC, Harry Laidlaw with a career best in SG and AC. KT Parker has also started the season well with career best results in the NorAm series in DH and AC. Jenny Lyons (Owens) also competed in the DH races, improving her world ranking as she makes her come back to Alpine ski racing. Harrison Coull also kicked off his season in the NorAm series and will be hungry for more.
On the other side of the world Greta Small is showing strong form in her full season back from knee surgery with a 16 point result in GS in the Far East Cup series in China. Alec Scott is also reaching form in Europe.
