The FIS Snowboard Alpine Junior World Championships take place in Bansko, Bulgaria later this month with one Aussie athlete looking to make their mark at the event.
Nineteen-year-old Mia Chawner is on her second Australian team for the season having competed at the FISU World University Games in Lake Placid in January.
Training and competing with the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club in Colorado, Chawner scored a pair of top-15 Nor-Am Cup results ahead of the World University Games where she finished 21st in parallel giant slalom and 23rd in parallel slalom.
“I’m pretty happy with my performance this season, especially since the last few years of COVID travel restrictions meant that this season was the first time I had been back training and competing in the US since the start of 2020,” said Chawner. “I set realistic competition goals with my coach, which I achieved.
“It was great to be back, and I know I can go further with my snowboarding in the future.
“It felt amazing to represent Australia and my Uni at the Winter University Games and being part of such a large international event was a lot of fun.
“I’m very thankful to have also been selected to represent Australia at Junior Worlds and I'm looking forward to heading to Bulgaria later this week.”
Chawner will compete at the FIS Snowboard Alpine Junior World Championships in Bulgaria starting on Friday 24 March with parallel giant slalom, followed by parallel slalom the next day.
