Child safety wraps up three-part educational series aimed at Club Committees

A leadership webinar highlighting the importance of child safety within Clubs and programs has concluded the three-part online series organised by Snow Australia to engage, educate and promote best practices within its committees.

Before wrapping up the series by sharing Child Safe Practices and providing information on how to create safe environments for athletes, the previous two appointments had focussed on governance and fundraising, with all Snow Australia Affiliated Club Committees and National Discipline Committees members, head coaches and staff invited to attend.

National Alpine and Pathway Coordinator Rebecca Clark said: “Snow Australia’s Committees are pivotal in supporting athletic and sport development.

“With this series, we wanted to share key lessons on topics that are very important for the clubs and can enhance the functions of their committees, which are so crucial to the development of the pathway.”

The first webinar, focused on sport governance, provided information on how good governance can influence strategic outcomes and presented the newly released Sport Australia’s Sport Governance Principles, a document that provides insight into the purpose of governance and how it should direct the function and role of committees to ensure success.

The second webinar presented strategies to support community sport, particularly in light of the huge challenges posed by COVID during the last nine months.

“We wanted to make sure that clubs are aware of how they can maximise their fundraising activities and also what support network is available to them. Non-profit organisations like the Australian Sports Foundation are platforms that can help clubs raise crucial funds for facilities, equipment, coaching and, more recently, to respond to COVID-19 related issues.

“Providing opportunities to discuss, educate and inform is part of our commitment to engage with and assist our clubs and our pathway,” said Clark.
