An update on day two of Chumpy’s Boarding House coming from a very windy Mt Hotham.
The weather delivered this morning with clear skies and light winds, the team took advantage of the conditions and spent the morning at the top of the boarder cross track focusing on starts and start gate positioning. The aim of the game was incremental gains out of the blocks, Australian Coaches Ben Wordsworth and Harald Benselin were on hand proving real time feedback and video analysis which allowed the athletes focus on a stronger and faster release out of the gate.
Winning is as much about what you do on the track as what goes on behind the scenes. Harry Routledge the Port Adelaide Football Club’s nutritionist came to Chumpy’s Boarding House today to have a chat to the athletes about the role food plays in high performance sport. After a short presentation each participant sat down for a one on one session with Harry where they developed an individually tailored nutrition plan.
Another big day planned tomorrow, fingers crossed the weather plays ball.

As day 1 draws to a close on Chumpy’s Boarding House project, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for supporting the development of the next generation of Australian SBX athletes.
An odd bunch of groms had assembled out the front of the Caravaggio Chalet in Hotham Heights on Sunday afternoon. Weary eyed from the weekends Australian National competition but jumping with anticipation for the week of snowboarding that laid ahead, they forced their way in and fought for the bottom bunks. Little did they know what awaited them.
When Chumpy approached us about the idea for this high performance camp he reiterated that the focus was not only on honing the athletes technical skills but developing them as a professional athletes with a holistic understanding of what it takes to become the best in the world.
Fittingly day one kicked off with an inspirational board tech session by Ross Hindman. A man who has over 22 years experience in coaching and fine tuning equipment at the highest level. Ross’s passion, knowledge and quirkiness certainly hit an accord with the captivated athletes.
This energy translated into the afternoons session which focused on fine tuning body position leading into heel and toe banked burms, followed by a fun but challenging free riding session without highbacks.
Another action packed day awaits the group with good weather predicted tomorrow.
