Coaching Fundamentals accreditation now online

Snow Australia is excited to announce the launch of the Coaching Fundamentals accreditation for snowsports coaches, as part of the Snow Academy.

Designed for instructors, ex-athletes and other prospective snowsports coaches beginning their journey, the Coaching Fundamentals accreditation consists of online education and practical workshops.

Snow Australia Performance Pathway & Program Manager Ben Wordsworth highlighted the need for a reinvigorated accreditation system, in ensuring the continual development of snowsports coaches in Australia.

“This refresh of our coach education and accreditation system has been in the pipeline for a number of years,” Wordsworth said.

“Our new blended learning system allows coaches to complete most of the theory components in their own time, and be better prepared for the on snow practical coaching workshops.," he said.

The Fundamentals 1 e-Learning courses will be the first component released, including Introduction to Coaching, Alpine Fundamentals, Freestyle Fundamentals and Snowboard Fundamentals modules. Cross Country Fundamentals will be released in the coming weeks.

There are also a number of mandatory external requirements to be completed, including Sport Australia Community Coach General Principles, Play By The Rules Child Protection and Sport Integrity Australia Level 1 Anti-Doping and Coach modules. The full accreditation requirements are available in the Coaching Pathways section of the Snow Australia website.

The online modules can be completed at any time, and are a prerequisite for the on snow Fundamentals 2 Practical Workshops, which have been scheduled to run in September 2020, snow permitting.
