2020 Snow Australia Community Sport Awards put on ice

Snow Australia wishes to inform that the 2020 Community Sport Awards will not go ahead.
The difficult decision was made in consideration of the significant challenges posed by COVID-19 and its widespread impacts on the domestic winter season, including the unprecedented cancellation of all events scheduled on snow in Australia.
The second edition of the awards, designed to recognise athletes, coaches, volunteers and other members of the community who support the development of snow sports in Australia, was scheduled for early November, after a successful inaugural edition held in Canberra, in 2019.
Snow Australia CEO Michael Kennedy acknowledged the efforts made by the community during the season to ensure some form of continuity for the ongoing development programs and high performance training.
“We regret that we were not able to hold the Community Sport Awards this year, but we know that there are incredible people in our community who have done amazing things to help each other over the last six months, when our sport has been challenged like never before,” he said.
“Even though we won’t be able to get together this year, I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you once again to our volunteers, our clubs, schools, all development and pathway programs administrators, and of course our athletes and coaches, for their resilience, efforts and commitment during this difficult time.”
Kennedy also assured that Snow Australia plans to bring back the Community Sport Awards celebrations in 2021.
“People and relationships are at the core of our organisation. Last year, the first edition of the Community Sport Awards gave us the opportunity to connect the passionate individuals who make up our community and recognise their valuable contributions to the future of snow sports in Australia. We’ll be back next year to celebrate again our emerging talents and our community at large,” he said.
