Cross country World Cup season kicks off

Four Australians have kick started their Cross Country Skiing World Cup season in Davos, Switzerland over the weekend.
After recently securing her Australian citizenship, Barbara Jezersek secured the best result amongst the Aussies finishing 37th in the 15km free event, just over two and a half minutes behind Norway’s Ingvild Flugstadt Oestberg.
In the men’s 30km free event Sochi 2014 Olympian Callum Watson finished 74th out of 77 athletes just under eight and a half minutes behind Norway’s Martin Johnsrud Sundby.
Watson went on to finish 83rd in qualification for the 1.6km sprint event, with fellow Sochi Olympian Phil Bellingham finishing 51st and Mark Pollock 93rd as the top 30 progressed through to the qualification.
World Cup competition continues in La Clusaz, France, next weekend before events are held on New Yrear Eve and New Years Day in Val Mustair, Switzerland.
