Dean Gosper re-elected onto FIS Council

Following the 51st International Ski Congress in Greece from May 13-19, Ski & Snowboard Australia Chairman Dean Gosper was re-elected to the FIS council for his eighth-consecutive year.

First elected onto the council in 2010, Dean’s corporate and sporting experience along with his leadership during the restructure of the FIS Snowboard, Freestyle and Freeski Committee has been recognised with another term ending in 2020, which will mean his total amount of time on the council will equal a decade.

At Congress, 68 voting National Ski Associations were present, and Dean secured 118 out of a possible 121 individual votes for re-election signalling the trust and endorsement other nations place in the important work Dean delivers.

Dean, who is also currently Chair of the Snowboard, Freestyle and Freeski Committee, has previously served on the FIS Snowboard and FIS Legal & Safety Committees.

The newly-elected Council undertook their first meeting on May 19 and discussed whole of sport issues and initiatives.

The main outcomes of multiple Council meetings throughout the Congress revolved around:
•    Setting FIS World Cup calendars from 2018/2019 to 2021/2022
•    Confirming FIS World Championships and Junior World Championships organisers
•    Reviewing recommendations from various technical committees concerning adaptions to different technical rules
•    Management of Governance and Ethical Breaches
