Div 1 National Interschools Moguls Champions Crowned

The penultimate day of the SUBARU Australian Interschools Championships saw national champions crowned in Moguls, Alpine and Ski Cross events on Saturday 10 September.
With primary school events finishing on Friday, we are coming to the pointy end of the Championships, with secondary students fighting for the remaining titles.
With NSWIS Scholarship holders and Emerging Talent Program (ETP) athletes in the mix for medals, the Division 1 Moguls event is always hotly contested.
With sunshine, fog, snow, rain and wind all experienced within the two-hour competition window on top of Mogul Matt's at Blue Cow, athletes that adapted to the fluctuating weather conditions came out on top.
ETP athlete Mac Livissianos, from Jindabyne Central School, won gold in the male division with a top score of 53.58, just 0.18 points ahead of Cranbrook School’s Laidley Dowling in second on 53.40. Snowy Mountains Grammar School’s Flynn Mooney rounded out the podium in third with a best score of 52.00.
With a 360 mute grab on the jump, Livissianos said he was “stoked” with his Interschools gold-medal performance today.
“The first run I had a bit of a bobble in the middle of the line, but then the second round, I put a smashing run down so I was pretty stoked,” he said.
“The course was a little hard because of the slush, but I got through it.”
The year-11 student has had a big season, competing in both the Moguls National Championships, placing 21st and 28th, and the ABOM Mogul Challenge, where he placed 18th. However, Livissianos said he always loves returning to the great vibes of Interschools, where he also placed 8th in Ski Slopestyle, and will contest Ski Cross on Saturday.
“It’s always hype city up the top which is awesome, everyone gets around each other and cheers for everyone," the 16-year-old said.
“The Division 1 girls who raced before us were down the bottom cheering for us as well, and vice versa, we were down there before our competition.
“It’s fun to see all my mates that I haven’t seen for a while from other disciplines.”
In the female event, ETP athlete and Snowy Mountains Grammar School representative Hannah Jones won the gold with a best score of 48.90.
NSWIS Scholarship holder Charlotte Wilson (PLC Croydon) was second with 46.34 and Chloe Gunning (Queenwood School for Girls) was third with 46.26.
As a new 2022 NSWIS Scholarship recipient, Wilson said it’s been a massive season, but she’s excited to see all her hard work paying off.
“I was really happy with my runs today, and it’s also great to hang out with everyone I grew up skiing with at Interschools,” she said.
“I’ve loved being able to compete with my friends, it’s a great atmosphere.
“Interschools has been really important in my skiing career, and getting me into the NSWIS program. [The NSWIS Program] has been a long time goal of mine, and a lot of hard work, a lot of hours in the gym, time spent at overseas camps, has all been worth it.”
The National Interschools Championships will wrap up on Sunday with only Div 1 Ski Cross, Div 2 Moguls and Div 2 Alpine events remaining, before the Overall Secondary School Champions are announced.
