Double podium for Scott completes strong World Cup weekend

Danielle Scott made it a double podium weekend in Quebec, with the VIS aerial skier adding a Sunday bronze medal to her silver medal performance on Saturday.

In the qualification round, Scott finished fifth place and Abbey Willcox in ninth to see both athletes adance to the final.

In the first round of finals both athletes performed full-full double twisting double backflips to make it through to the top six Super Final in first and second place with 84.73 and 80.32 points respectively.

In the medal round, Scott performed the more difficult double full-full triple twisting double back somersault, scoring 81.42 points to take the bronze medal, her 20th career podium.

Abbey Willcox also continued her strong recent form with with another fifth place finish, making three straight Super Finals for the first time in her career.

In first place was American Winter Vinecki who scored 97.88 points on her triple back somersault, with Meiting Chen of China second with 88.12 points.

Scott said while she was happy to score another World Cup medal, the competition was a difficult one for the 33-year-old.

“It was frustrating," she said. "I really wanted to put down a better jump today, but the speed was all over the place

“It’s been really tricky with these conditions, so frustrated with that unfortunately, but very grateful to still be on the podium.”

With one World Cup event remaining in the season, Vinecki has now moved back into first place on the rankings on 352 points, with Scott trailing by 12 points.

Brisbane based Willcox moved up one place to be ranked a career-best seventh.

The final event will take place on March 10 Kazakhstan where Scott is still in the race for back-to-back Crystal Globes.
