ETP Season Launch Camp arrives at NSTC this weekend

The 2024 cohort from Snow Australia’s Emerging Talent Program will come together at the National Snowsports Training Centre (NSTC) in Jindabyne for the Season Launch Camp this weekend.

Forty-two athletes from eight different disciplines will participate in the Camp which runs from Friday afternoon through to Sunday.

While individual discipline-focused sessions will be staged, the Camp largely engages athletes in areas which the ETP looks to enhance as their careers are steered towards high performance goals.

“Everyone identified to the ETP has the potential for exciting careers in snowsports, and camps like this are programmed to launch them on their journey as a complete athlete,” said Ben Bond, Snow Australia Performance Health & Talent Manager.

“There are sessions focused specifically on the athletes’ areas of sporting talent, however we will devote a lot of time to goal-setting techniques, coach-athlete relationships, baseline testing and team-building.

“We also conduct a number of sessions with parents and athletes together as we recognise the critical role parents play in enabling their children to be the best they can be.”

This camp is the one of many ETP events which will be staged over the course of the 2024 season, with this weekend’s participants coming from from Alpine, Cross Country, Moguls, Ski Cross, Snowboard Cross, Freeski Park and Pipe, Snowboard Park and Pipe and Para Snowsports.

Throughout the camp, athletes will be exposed to many of the high performance themes which our elite skiers and snowboarders carry with them on the world stage.

“Australia is coming off its most successful northern winter in history and the athletes here this weekend will be looking to tread those same footsteps in the next 5-10 years,” said Bond. “While we are fortunate to provide these opportunities for the next generation, it takes dedication and hard work to make it to the top and the more time spent helping young athletes understand what it takes to be the best will set them up well for the future.

“By the end of the camp, some of the athletes will be another step closer to becoming ‘Institute-ready’ while others will take home a greater sense of motivation when they embark on achieving more short term goals.”
