Amazing snow and weather conditions marked the first SSA and Perisher Winter Sports Club (PWSC) annual 2018 SSA Skill Assessment. Over 30 participants from U10 to FIS level athletes attended, and had the opportunity to gain valuable insight on skill development and to better understand their level of skiing. Over the two days, PWSC athletes spent time on-snow with the Alpine Director, Mick Branch, SSA Coaches Shawn Fleming, Danny Geiger, Christian Geiger, and PWSC program head coach, Stephen Edwards and U14-U16 program leader coach, Jan Vokaty.
Alpine Director, Mick Branch said ‘it was great to get an early start on the assessment, which provides a clear understanding for all participants of their strengths and opportunities for improvements. The data collected provides an evidence-based approach to skill development, and an evaluation template for clubs and coaches.’
The National Skills Assessment is a program designed to provide valuable feedback to participants to assist their long-term development. The assessment is not mandatory, however, SSA and Alpine Race Clubs strongly recommend participation. The individuals assessment and the feedback provided will help athletes better understand their strengths and ares requiring improvement. In conjunction with their Club coaching staff and the National Development coaches a plan can be put in place to help athletes make improvements during the season. The earlier the assessment is conducted in the season the better equipped clubs will be to have an evidence-based approach to programming and skill building.
The next SSA Skills Assessment will be held this weekend at Thredbo Mountain Academy. Click below for further information about your Clubs SSA Skill Assessment. Registrations close soon.
