FIS Committee Meeting Outcomes

The annual autumn session of the FIS Technical and Committee meetings took place at the Hilton Zurich Airport hotel this past week, gathering key stakeholders from all corners of the snow sports world for four intensive days of meetings and strategic sessions. These discussions aimed to chart a clear path forward through the 2024/25 winter season and beyond.

Alpine Skiing

The recent FIS Alpine Committee meetings highlighted several updates for the 2024/25 season. Key changes include Levi returning to the men's slalom schedule, combined men’s and women’s events in Gurgl, and expanded races in North America. The season will conclude with the World Cup Finals in Sun Valley. Organizers of upcoming major events, like the World Championships in Saalbach and the 2026 Milano Cortina Olympics, shared updates on logistics and infrastructure preparations. Marcel Hirscher was confirmed eligible for Soelden's season opener.

Cross Country Skiing

The FIS Cross Country Committee autumn meetings 2024 covered key changes for the upcoming season. Highlights include the confirmation of Cogne, Italy, as a replacement for Nove Mesto in the World Cup calendar, updates to Tour de Ski rules (including a climber's bib and adjusted sprint standings), and format changes for Oslo and Lahti events. The committee also discussed common waxing methods to reduce costs and adjustments to handling race interruptions. Additionally, dates for junior and U23 championships were confirmed for 2025-2027.

Freestyle, Freeski and Snowboard

The recent FIS Snowboard, Freestyle, and Freeski Committee meetings in Zurich covered key advancements and strategies for the upcoming 2024/25 season. Topics included the Olympic preparation for moguls and aerials, updates on FIS education for officials, and the expansion of Park & Pipe competitions. New technologies like goggle-integrated cameras were discussed for enhancing broadcasts. The meetings also focused on advancing gender equality, optimizing judging standards, and expanding competition calendars across disciplines like Snowboard Cross, Ski Cross, and Freestyle Skiing.
