FIS Freestyle Ski & Snowboard Championships cancelled

Published Mon 07 Dec 2020

The The FIS Freestyle Ski, Snowboard and Freeski World Championships, originally scheduled from February 18 to 28, 2021, won’t go ahead in Zhangjiakou (China), FIS has announced.

FIS is currently looking for alternative hosts to organise the event and will announce replacement venues as soon as they are confirmed.

The decision has been made in light of the current global COVID-19 outbreak and travel restrictions still in place, including a current mandatory 14-day quarantine for all international visitors to China.

“The current second wave of Covid-19 has resulted in very strong travel restrictions that made it virtually impossible to stage international competitions,” FIS President Gian Franco Kasper said.

The decision to cancel FIS events in China affects other disciplines as well, with Cross-country (19-21 March)  and Women’s Alpine Skiing (24-28 February) World Cup events cancelled, amongst others.
