FIS JNR SBX Series Returns for 2023

Registrations now open for the first event in Thredbo

After a very successful debut season last year, Snow Australia are excited to announce the FIS JNR SBX Series, powered by the Chumpy Pullin Foundation, is returning this domestic winter season.

Australia’s best emerging snowboard cross racers will once again battle out for FIS points and ultimate glory across multiple resorts in 2023.

With points awarded across all events, the eventual male and female winners of the Series will take home the coveted Chumpy Pullin Trophy and the title of national champion.

Snow Australia’s Program Operations and Sport Development Coordinator, Johnny Lipzker, said the organisation is really excited to see the event return this year after such positive feedback from last year’s series.

“Last year’s FIS JNR SBX series was embraced by up-and-coming riders, and the talent and calibre of riding on display was really encouraging to see,” Lipzker said.

“The Series provides emerging riders with a competition environment that more closely reflects what they will see when they start to represent Australia internationally. For example, almost all of this years’ SBX Junior World Championships Team came through our FIS JNR SBX Series last season, including Snowboard Cross Team Junior World Champion, James Johnston.

“We extend our thanks to the Chumpy Pullin Foundation, participating resorts and the National Snowboard Committee for their continued support,” he said.

Last year’s women’s series winner, Lara Walsh, said the introduction of the FIS JNR SBX series was a game-changer for the sport.

“The introduction of the JNR FIS SBX series has been fantastic for our sport. Australia has a lot of talented SBX riders, and the series gave all of the upcoming riders an opportunity to ride together, learn from each other and challenge ourselves,” she said.

“I am really looking forward to riding in the series in the coming years and watching the events grow and encouraging more riders to take on this amazing opportunity.”

The series will be open to SBX athletes aged between 15 and 19 (on 31 December 2023) and all athletes will need to hold a Snow Australia National Racer Membership -  Membership - Snow Australia
