FIS Race GS Perisher

The Australian FIS race calendar is underway with two Giant Slalom races held at Perisher August 3 and 4.

With an early morning start, athletes were on the mountain at sunrise and racing on the Excelerator run at Blue Cow, Perisher, the longest race course on the mountain. Sunshine and cold weather greeted racers on a firm track for the first day.

Local Perisher racer Zali Offord kick started proceedings with a victory in race one, edging out Madison Hoffman by 1.39 seconds overall, with Lily Tomkinson in 3rd position. Hoffman had led the first run by a narrow margin of 0.17 seconds with Offord storming home to claim victory.

Harry Laidlaw was never headed in the first race, posting two solid times to outpoint Robert Poth from Great Britain, with Italian Michelangelo Tentori in 3rd position. Laidlaw opened his account with the fastest time of the day, a 53.19 and wrapped it up with a 54.32, the fastest 2nd run.

Day 2 tested racers as the course was extended and ran all the way to the bottom of Excelerator, negotiating the final steep pitch to the finish. Harry Laidlaw again proved too strong for his rivals notching up his second victory of the week, accounting for Italian racers Andrea Testa and Michelangelo Tentori, who finished with two 3rd position finishes. As was the case in race 1, Laidlaw had too much speed and posted the fastest times in both runs.

Madison Hoffman had revenge from race 1 and graced the top step of the podium with the two fastest times. Lily Tomkinson in 2^nd place after two very consistent times, with Georgia Von Einem in 3^rd place. Race 1 winner Zali Offord failed to finish the first run.
