The Snow Australia FUTURES program has once again proven to be a success, showcasing the incredible talent of young athletes across multiple disciplines.
This year saw a record number of participants across the six different FUTURES camps, solidifying the program’s growth and impact on the up-and-coming athletes in snow sports for Australia.
Pre-season FUTURES kicked off the season at the National Snowsports Training Centre in April, attracting 36 athletes. With guidance from Olympians Adam Lambert and Ben Mates, this camp provided athletes with the necessary preparation time for the season.
Throughout the camps, nutrition, mentoring and educating was emphasised, enriching athletes’ understandings on their own health and performance. The blend of world class coaching and mentoring from Olympic and World Cup athletes enhanced the experience for all involved.
In total more than 250 athletes took part in FUTURES camps this season. The momentum generated this year is a testament to the dedication of Snow Australia to nurture the next generation of talent within Australia and to engage with current and past national team athletes to lend their time to coach and educate future talent.
The Para FUTURES camp was a great success with nine athletes attending under the expert guidance of World Cup athletes joined by the Para Snowboard and Para Alpine High Performance team members Ben Tudhope, Sean Pollard, Georgia Gunew, Ethan Jackson and Sam Tait.
The camp delivered both on and off-snow components, national classification and was witnessed by 2026 Winter Paralympics Chef de Mission Ben Troy who was impressed by the athletes coming through in the pathway.
Park & Pipe FUTURES athletes had the opportunity to learn valuable insights and had the ability to train on the NSTC’s airbag and in the Acro facilities, providing a fantastic opportunity for participants to greater improve their skill level and practice tricks in a controlled environment.
“Snow Australia FUTURES continues to go from strength-to-strength,” said Johnny Lipzker, Snow Australia Program Operations & Sport Development Coordinator. “The progression that is seen by our young athletes in a short period of time proves the value of FUTURES and the effectiveness of the leadership provided by expert coaches as well as former and current athletes.”
Preparations are already underway for Snow Australia FUTURES for 2025, with dates and registration details to come prior to next season.
