Funding is now available to get Little Shredders at your school FREE!

Little Shredders is available FREE to schools under the Australian Sporting Commission’s Sporting Schools Initiative. Funding for term 1, 2017 is now open for for applications and more information can be found at Little Shredders

Little Shredders introduces primary school aged children to snowsports using modified snowsports-like equipment that can be setup in the gym or vacant space at your school.

A former ski instructor commented that while there isn't much that beats the real thing of being on snow, children would get more value from their ski lift pass and lesson time with a little off-snow practice, just like any sport.

Little Shredders offers a series of fun and inclusive off-snow modules over four to six sessions, covering skills such as snowsport specific balance, technique, equipment and snow safe knowledge together with spatial awareness exercises in a fun team environment.

Last week Olympic ski cross champion and Little Shredders ambassador, Katya Crema spent the day with Shelford Girls Grammar to coach students through the program before they hit the snow this winter.

Crema and the students had lots of fun and laughs playing games, practicing their balance, coordination building physical awareness and confidence while having fun and working in teams.

Children don’t need to be planning a snow trip to take part, however on completion of the Little Shredders program, each child receives a complimentary 2 day lift pass for one of Australia’s seven alpine resorts, 2 day ski or snowboard hire and lessons to give them their very own on-snow experience.

Seeking volunteers: snowsports activities at the 2017 Australian Grand Prix

We are seeking volunteers to help out at our Little Shredders activation/snowboard park in the sport zone at the 2017 Australian Formula One Grand Prix next month.

Ski and Snowboard Australia (SSA) have partnered with Burton Snowboards to run an off-snow interactive snowboarding park for children at the Grand Prix at Albert Park, 23-26 March.
Kids will be able to learn and practice their snowboarding and snowsports skills in a safe and fun environment with you to help show them the way.

Professional coaching qualifications are not necessary, simply an interest in snowsports and having fun with kids are the pre-requisites!

We're looking for 4 volunteers to help across the four days. What a great way to see the Formula One racing action and get involved with SSA!

  • General admission entry to the Grand Prix, plus lunch and refreshments included.
  • Availability: 23-26 March.
  • A current working with children check is required.

To register your interest, please contact Nick Frayne on 03 9696 2344 or email nfrayne@skiandsnowboard.org.au
