Snow Australia is excited to be the successful recipient of the Multi-Sport Community Facility Fund grant for the development of the John Langley Hancock Building at the National Snowsports Training Centre (NSTC) in Jindabyne.
The $1.5 million grant from the NSW Government ensures the new state of the art center will be completed and fully functional by early 2023.
Snow Australia CEO Michael Kennedy thanked the NSW Government for their ongoing support and said the expansion at the NSTC is an exciting time for the sport.
“Thank you to the Honorable Stuart Ayres MP and the NSW Government for supporting this exciting project which will benefit multiple generations of Australian snow sports athletes,” Kennedy said.
“The additional funding grant will enable us to fit out the centre and build a clubhouse for the NSTC Park community sport users, so it can be a year-round, multi-sport training facility, accessible to high performance snow sport athletes, community sporting teams, other wintersport programs, and the Jindabyne and Snowy Mountain community.
“With the support of John Hancock and the NSW Government, the upgraded facility will open earlier than planned, as we’re now on track for the build to be completed in late 2022, with the aim of being fully operational from the start of 2023.”
Works are well and truly underway on the John Langley Hancock Building, which is an expansion and upgrade of the existing building at Jindabyne Sport and Recreation Centre.
Works to date include setting out footings for the building expansion and preparation of all the internal works.
“The NSTC has been buzzing so far this winter season, and it is great to see the works already commencing on the John Langley Hancock Building,” Kennedy added.
“John is a tremendous supporter of snowsports in Australia, and to see this vision starting to come to life is definitely exciting.”
Snow Australia have also established a temporary acro facility to provide for continuation of the Action Sports Programs and access for high performance programs while the refurbishment is underway.
Both the development airbag and performance airbag are still fully operational, and have been hosting lots of activity so far this season including high performance training camps and community sessions.
