Important Membership Update

Published Thu 04 May 2017

The SSA team has been hard at work since the 2016 Australian winter season, refining and developing new components to the membership offering. The overarching aim is to continually simplify and improve the membership process, whist increasing benefits and services to our athletes and their families regardless of where they are in the pathway. These include:

SnowID

The SnowID is now a requirement for almost all competitors taking part in Snowsport events in Australia. The SSA SnowID is a single membership number, allocated to each person on their first involvement/registration with the sport and which will remain as a unique ID for a life time of involvement whether it be as an athlete, a coach or official.

Having a SnowID will ensure your results are recorded correctly, the entry process into events via the SSA portal is easier for you and your friends and family will be able to track your results live through the Snowracer Live system.

EventHQ

In 2017 Ski & Snowboard Australia will roll out phase one of the SSA EventHQ; A single website portal designed to be a one-stop-shop for all your event requirements for all levels of competition at all resorts in Australia. EventHQ will allow you to view events, check schedules, enter or register, view live scoring/results and view the final results. In time it is hoped 100% of snow events, across all levels and disciplines will be visible via EventHQ.

Live Timing and Results

With the success of Snowracer Live last season, SSA has commenced further development of the live timing system to ensure more events have access to the software. Where an event is run using the live timing system, all competitors registered with a SnowID will appear in the results. This season will also see the introduction of Live Scoring for judged events including moguls and ski/snowboard slopestyle. Again this will all be accessed via EventHQ

Snowracer Insurance

All SSA members are currently provided FREE Snowracer insurance cover while competing in Australia. This insurance is for non-medical expenses to the value of $500 and covers items as entry fees, lift tickets, lost accommodation or car repatriation. This year SSA will introduce Snowracer Gold; an optional upgrade for members to include cover for recreational skiing and snowboarding, travel and salary protection among other important inclusions. SSA has worked closely with the providers to develop a customized insurance product which is relevant to Australian ski and snowboard families whether competing or not. Further information regarding Snowracer Gold will be made available shortly.

Updated Alpine Registration Categories

2017 will see some significant changes to the Alpine Registration structure to simplify the registration process.

The National Skills Assessment and Physical Testing are both critically important initiatives and as such have been included in the SSA Alpine Membership fee structure. The 2017 membership structure has been simplified, with the fee restructured within the National Alpine Committee budget to offer greater value and more inclusions. The new Alpine Registration categories are:

  • Club Racer
  • Rookie
  • Junior Racer
  • Racer
  • FIS Injury Status

Unification Information

During the forthcoming Membership year, SSA, NSW Snowsports and Snowsports ACT are continuing discussions to explore the merits and mechanisms for unifying the governance structure of our sport. These discussions are being undertaken in a spirit of goodwill and any unification will be occurring only with the agreement and approval of the relevant State Sporting Organisation (SSO) communities. With this background, it has been agreed to add an additional element (clause 2) to membership terms to provide flexibility in the event either or both of the SSO communities agree to unification and allow for a sensible consolidation of membership. Should you require further explanation please contact your own SSO or the Office of SSA on (03) 9696 2344.
