Introducing Sport Integrity Australia
Published Wed 24 Jun 2020
From July 1 Sport Integrity Australia will become the cornerstone of the Government's comprehensive sport integrity strategy: Safeguarding the Integrity of Sport.
Created to improve the integrity measures protecting Australian sport, the current functions of the Australian Sport Anti-Doping Agency (ASADA), National Integrity of Sport Unit (NISU) NISU and the national integrity programs of Sport Australia will be combined to facilitate a single nationally coordinated organisation to address all sport integrity issues.
Sporting organisations will continue to take responsibility for maintaining integrity within their sport, however Sport Integrity Australia will perform the functions currently carried by ASADA, NISU and Sport Australia.
This includes providing advice and assistance to counter:
- Use of prohibited substances and methods in sport
- Abuse of children and other persons in a sporting environment
- Manipulation of sporting competitions
- Failure to protect members of sporting organisations and other persons in a sporting environment from bullying, intimidation, discrimination or harassment.
SIA will focus on policy development, intelligence, investigations (primarily of doping cases), and education, outreach and capability building.
More information on Sport Integrity Australia will be distributed following its July 1 launch.
