Triple Winter Olympian Scotty James was, last night, awarded the coveted VIS Award of Excellence for a second consecutive year.
James has had a successful past 12 months, winning six out of six events throughout the 2018/19 season, becoming the first-ever snowboarder to finish the season undefeated.
James says that whilst being atop the podium at every event was an amazing experience, he knows that he has to continue working hard to stay there.
“It’s been challenging for me to date, to get to where I am, but I think it’s going to be even more challenging to stay here,” James said.
“But I’m excited for that. As long as I’m aware that it can be taken away from me at any moment, if I take it for granted, then I never will.”
Triple Winter Paralympian Mitch Gourley was also among the snowsports athletes honoured last night, taking out the Performance Lifestyle award.
Dual Winter Olympian Laura Peel also joined James and Gourley as a VIS award winner, claiming the 2019 Coach’s Award for aerial skiing.
