Jan Vokaty named Coach Academy Male Coach of the Year for 2024

Jan Vokaty has been awarded the 2024 Coach Academy Male Coach of the Year as part of Snow Australia’s Community Sport Awards.
This award recognises the exceptional contribution made by a coach during the nomination period with a focus on encouraging and inspiring the growth of athletes in technical, non-technical and human aspects of performance.
Having been a coach for over three decades, working back-to-back Northern and Southern Hemisphere seasons, Jan is grateful to be recognised.
“It is a great honour and privilege to receive this award, and to be recognised by the ski community for my work in Australia,” Vokaty said.
“My job has allowed me to work in many countries around the world and meet some amazing people, which has led to making some lifelong friends from all over the world.”
Recently appointed as the Snow Australia Para Alpine assistant coach, Jan’s experience allows him to draw wisdom from valuable lessons along the way.
“Always have a Plan B and C,” he said. “When you are working in a natural environment, and specifically in the mountains, things will not always go according to Plan A.
“My new role forces me to keep learning new skills while applying everything I have learned over my time in the ski industry.
“It is a great opportunity, but also a new challenge.”
As the Para Alpine assistant coach, Jan’s goal ahead of the upcoming winter season is to support his athletes towards their goals of getting on the podium.
“I hope I can contribute to the success of the team with my experience and knowledge of the sport,” Vokaty said.
“I want to help our Para athletes achieve their goals and hopefully get on the podium.”
Receiving the award has allowed Jan to reflect positively on his career so far.
“I love helping young athletes get better and watching them progress and grow as ski racers, and as people,” he said.
“The fact that some of them were selected for national teams and to represent their countries at the highest level of the sport is very rewarding.”
