Things heated up for the Aussies in the Cross Country World Championships in Lahti, Finland over the weekend, with an Australian best result in the Skiathlon.

Barbara Jezersek achieved a groundbreaking 24th place in the 15km course on Saturday, the first time an Australian cross country skier has made it into the top 30 at the World Championships.

“Awesome race today” Jezersek said of her result.  “Thanks to everyone who supported me and believed in me!”

Aimee Watson also finished the Skiathlon with a personal best 44th.
Callum Watson unfortunately had to withdraw from the 30km Skiathlon early on due to an ongoing heel issue.

In the Team Sprint on Sunday Jessica Yeaton and Katerina Paul teamed up to finish 17th in the women's event, while Phillip Bellingham and Paul Kovacs finished strongly to take 19th place in the men's event.

The athletes will take a rest day before the World Championships continue with the women’s 10km Classic on Tuesday and the men’s 15km Classic on Wednesday.
